PURPOSE: To obtain a porous body which is useful as a carrier suitable for immobilizing a functional substance by copolymerizing a specific (meth)acrylic ester (deriv.) with a specific (meth)acrylate and forming pores on the surface of and/or inside the resulting copolymer.
CONSTITUTION: A porous body is obtd. by copolymerizing at least one (meth) acrylic ester (deriv.) having an acid anhydride group and selected from compds. of formulae I and II (wherein (n) is 2-6; R1 is H or 1-4C alkyl; R2 is R1 or carboxyl; and each R3 is independently R1 provided when one of R3's is alkyl, then the other is H) with a 1-4C alkyl (meth)acrylate (e.g. methyl methacrylate) in the presence of a polyalkyl (meth)acrylate derived from a 1-4C alkyl (meth) acrylate and forming pores with a diameter of 1-20μm on the surface of and/or inside the resulting copolymer.
