Title:
POROUS THETA-ALUMINA MOLDING BODY
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS57170822
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a very porous θ-alumina molding body holding a large number of both relatively fine pores and pores of intermediate size, having superior mechanical strength and large specific surface area, and suitable for use especially as an adsorbent, a catalyst carrier or a catalyst.

CONSTITUTION: This porous θ-alumina molding body has 30W150m2/g specific surface area. The total volume of pores having 37.5W75,000 radius is 0.4W 1.0cc/g, and pores having 37.5W3,000 account for ≥90% of the total pore volume. A pore distribution having clear peaks at 40W200 radius and 100W 3,000 radius is shown, and the volume of pores having 37.5W100 radius is <0.5cc/g. Starting material for alumina such as boehmite is mixed with carbon black, and to the mixture is added water or further added a molding aid. They are kneaded, molded, and calcined in a gaseous flow contg. O2 to remove the carbon black by burning. Thus, the molding can be manufactured.
