This ashtray 1 has a vessel 2, a cylinder 3 and a frame 4. The fire origin 11a of a cigarette 11 is ignited, the cigarette 11 is inserted into the cylinder 3, which is, in turn, inserted into the frame 4. In this state, the respective inside projections 8 on the inner periphery of the frame 4 are in point contact with the outer periphery of the cigarette 11, affording a gap between the inner periphery of the frame 4 and the cigarette 11. Thereby, air is allowed to flow and the fire at the fire origin 11a of the cigarette 11 is retained. When the filter tip 11b of the cigarette 11 is sucked, air flows through the following route: the respective air holes 5a on the outer wall 5 of the vessel 2 → the opening 2a of the vessel 2 → the fire origin 11a of the cigarette 11 → the filter tip 11b, and the smoke from the cigarette 11 can be sucked via the filter tip 11b. The ash of the cigarette 11 falls from the cylinder 3 onto the inside of the inner wall 6 of the vessel 2 and stays here.
