To provide portable information equipment with which functional components can be naturally arranged and a casing can be formed into thin and compact without necessity to secure any dedicated space for housing a detection switch around a hinge rod.
Portable information equipment 1 is provided with a casing 4 housing functional components 13 and a display unit 3 turnably supported through a hinge device 40 to the casing. The hinge device has a hinge rod 41 to be turned while following up the display unit, and this hinge rod 41 is led into the casing 4. Inside the casing 4, a detection switch 50 is arranged for detecting the turning position of display unit 3 based on the turn of hinge rod 41. The detection switch 50 is arranged at a position axially facing the terminal part of hinge rod 41, and the terminal part of this hinge rod 41 is provided with a cam part 60 for opening/ closing the detection switch 50.
