To provide a portable terminal device capable of forming an acoustic field selectively at the position of a user by accurately calculating a direction and a distance from the portable terminal device to the user, while being kept small in size.
A portable terminal device 100 has a parametric speaker 10 that forms an acoustic field 2, in which a sound is replayed, in a specified area 3. The portable terminal device 100 includes an imaging section for imaging an image of a user 9 and a determination section for determining a direction of the user 9 on the basis of results of imaging by the imaging section. The portable terminal device 100 has a distance measurement section that measures a distance between the portable terminal device and the user 9 by emitting an ultrasonic wave toward the user 9 and detecting the ultrasonic wave reflected by the user 9. The portable terminal device 100 has a control section 6 that determines a position of the user 9 according to the direction determined by the determination section and the distance measured by the distance measurement section and controls directivity of the parametric speaker 10 so that the acoustic field 2 is formed at the determined position.
