Abstract:
PURPOSE:To detect an absolute position when a scale and sensors are moved relative to each other to a certain degree. CONSTITUTION:Periodically formed projecting portions 14 constituting a scale 12 are detected by first sensors 22, 24, and the projecting portions 18 of an absolute position detection pattern 20, which are so formed to constitute an M-serie, are detected by a second sensor 40. The interval at which the projecting portions 18 are formed is found by a detection pattern discriminator 44 according to signals output from a waveform shaper 32 and the pattern of formation of the projecting portion 18 in an area of a predetermined length is found and sent to an absolute position output circuit 46. The absolute position output circuit 46 reads position information corresponding to the pattern of formation of the projecting portion 18 from a look-up table 48 and a value counted by an up-down counter 36 is set at an absolute position and output.
