To provide a position information management system capable of eliminating the need for position information searching to inquire of many exchanges about the position of an opposite terminal in conventional decentralized position registration.
A communication network employing an IP switch network 1 including a wireless terminal 10, a base station 7, and a subscriber data management apparatus 6 managing an access right is provided with a position information management apparatus 3, which collectively registers positions of the terminals 10. Every time the terminal 10 makes an access request, the position is registered. When the terminal 10 moves outside of the zone of the base station 7, the base station 7 informs the position information management apparatus 3 to release the position registration of the terminal 10. Since the positions of all the terminals 10 are collectively registered, the base station 7 can immediately recognize the position of any terminal 10 resident in the zone of other base station 7.
