PURPOSE: To narrow a signal band and to set a position locating system with high accuracy by a method wherein the respective phase differences between the phase of the frequency dividing signal obtained by the frequency division of the measuring signal from a master station and the phases of the frequency dividing signals obtained by the frequency division of the measuring signals from a plurality of suboffices are measured and the distance differences between the master station and the suboffices are calculated from said phase differences.

CONSTITUTION: A master station 1 transmits a measuring signal having predetermined frequency for a predetermined period continuing to a synchronous signal and a plurality of the first and second suboffices 2, 3 receive the synchronous signal from the master station 1 to transmit measuring signals synchronous to said synchronous signal and having frequency different from that of the measuring signal of the master station 1. A moving station 4 receives the respective signals from the master station and the suboffices to measure the respective phase differences between the phase of the frequency dividing signal obtained by the frequency division of the measuring signal from the master station 1 and the phases of the frequency dividing signals from the suboffices 2, 3 after the time determined based on the synchronous signal and the distance differences between the master station and the suboffices are calculated to locate a position. Since the master station and the suboffices transmit measuring signals of the same predetermined frequency, a signal band may be narrow and the positional accuracy of the moving station 4 located based on phase differences is enhanced.
