To provide a position reading device and the like which can obtain better handwriting even when a user unintentionally detaches a writing instrument from a writing surface.
A position reading device 20 comprises: microphones 22a, 22b and 22c which are arranged in predetermined positions for acquiring frictional sounds generated when a writing instrument 10 is moving in contact with a writing surface 21a; contact position derivation means for deriving contact positions in which the writing instrument 10 has contact with the writing surface 21a on the basis of time when the microphones 22a, 22b and 22c acquire frictional sounds; and position interpolation means which, when a frictional sound absent period in which frictional sounds vanish as a result of detaching of the writing instrument 10 from the writing surface 21a is generated, determines whether to interpolate contact positions during the frictional sound absent period, and when it is determined to interpolate the contact positions, interpolates the contact positions of the writing instrument 10 derived by the contact position derivation means.
