PURPOSE: To exactly perform table indexing in a minimized time by automatically operating the intermeshing positioning of the rack shaft on a base and the pinion on a supporting shaft by means of an NC controller.

CONSTITUTION: The automatic operation of the intermeshing point of a rack 8 and pinion 9 is performed by an automatic operation processing device 100 (CPU/NC), and based on this operation result, a table 2 is moved to the point nearest for the rack 8 and pinion 9 to intermesh with each other thereat. By the feed per revolution following this movement, an index table 5 is controlled on the basis of the command from the NC controller and indexed to the specified command angle. As a result the index table 5 is exactly indexed in a minimized time.
