PURPOSE: To accurately position a stick not only in lateral directions but also in elevational directions, to be commonly applied to the sticks of various shapes and sizes thereby to obtain a positioning device of a simple structure by first positioning the stick laterally and then positioning it vertical.

CONSTITUTION: A rod 12, driving means 11 for elevationally driving the rod 12, a member 13 connected to the lower end of the rod 12 to press a stick 1 in contact with the upper surface of the stick 1 for positioning the stick elevationally, and a member 23 connected through an elastic member 22 to the rod 12 to rotate in response to the elevational movements of the rod 12 to press the stick 1 in contact with both side surfaces of the stick 1 for positioning the stick 1 laterally are provided. When the rod 12 is moved down, the stick 1 is laterally positioned by the member 23, and then elevationally positioned by the member 13.
