Abstract:
To provide a lithium nickel composite oxide which enables the development of such battery characteristics that a high capacity and a high output are shown in the case of being used for a lithium ion secondary battery.SOLUTION: A positive electrode active material for a lithium ion secondary battery comprises a lithium nickel composite oxide represented by the general formula, LizNi1-x-yCoxMyO2 (where 0.01≤x≤0.19, 0.01≤y≤0.10 and 0.95≤z≤1.10, and M includes Al or a combination of Al and at least one element selected from Mn, V, Mg, W, Mo, Nb and Ti). As to the lithium nickel composite oxide, when a ratio [mM/(mNi+mCo)] of a substance amount of M to a sum total of substance amounts of Ni and Co in the lithium nickel composite oxide is represented by α[%] on a percentage basis, a c-axis lattice constant determined from Rietveld analysis of an X-ray diffraction chart on the lithium nickel composite oxide is smaller than a numerical value β determined by the following formula (1): β=0.0004347α+1.4201-0.02(x+y).SELECTED DRAWING: None
