Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide titled powder which can prevent generation of defects in a billet and has an excellent heat insulating characteristic by using CaO, Al2O3, SiO2, fluoride, alkali compd., etc. as essential components, incorporating a specific amt. of carbon powder therein and consisting of the powder of hollow particles and powder raw material.

CONSTITUTION: Powder for continuous casting is formed by using CaO, Al2O3, SiO2, fluoride and alkali compd. as essential components, and compounding ≥20% hollow particles, ≤7% carbon powder and the balance powder raw material. Said powder has low heat conductivity and exhibits an excellent heat insulating characteristic to the surface of the molten metal without forming a viscous layer on the molten layer and therefore the powder can prevent generation of ripples, alumina cluster, pinholes, etc. Said hollow particles are easily formed by melting a powder raw material consisting of the above-mentioned chemical component alone or plural components, and blowing the same by a gaseous jet. The hollow particles having about 2W0.1mm particle size are preferable and the effect is better as the rate of compounding said particles is 20% or higher.
