To provide a power factor controller of a generator and its power factor control method for shift from operating power factor to a rated power factor, if unexpected situation occurs in a commercial power source, and the generator in normal service is changed into stand-alone operation, when the generator in the normal service of a nonutility generation facility linked to the commercial power source is operated at a higher operating power factor.
The power factor controller of the generator, having the nonutility generation facility linked to the commercial power source, includes a processing unit 17 and an automatic voltage regulator 18. The processing unit calculates the operating power factor of the nonutility generation facility to shift to the rated power factor, based on a signal of occurrence of the unexpected situation, when such a situation occurs in the commercial power source during operation of the nonutility generation facility in the power factor controller. The automatic voltage regulator provides a field current to a filed winding of the nonutility generation facility, based on the operation signal of the processing unit 17 and adjusts the operating power factor to the rated power factor.
