Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of an excessive charging current at the time when power of an AC power source is restored after once interrupted when an electric car passes a section, and to prevent stress that is added by a large current to a rectifier and a smoothing capacitor of an inverter main circuit.
SOLUTION: This power supply for an electric car is provided with an inverter main circuit 5 that converts AC into DC and again converts it into arbitrary AC using the AC power source 1; a section detector 8 that detects a power failure and restoration at the section; an inverter controlling circuit 9 that releases an initial charging contactor 2 with a prescribed delay by a power supply interrupting signal from the section detector, that stops the inverter main circuit and closes the initial charging contactor 2 by a power restoration signal from the section detector, and that controls the start of the inverter main circuit. The section is detected under frequency drop and voltage drop every 1/2 cycle of the AC power source.
