In this compact tiller, a transmission case bent in a dogleg shape as seen from a side view is interlockingly connected to a prime mover, a traveling part is located on a front part of the transmission case, and a tilling operation part is located on a rear part of the transmission case. A driving shaft of the transmission case is interlockingly connected to an output shaft of the prime mover through a transmission mechanism. An axle for driving the traveling part and a tilling shaft for driving the tilling operation part are interlockingly connected to the driving shaft of the transmission case, respectively. Thus, the power of the prime mover is transmitted from the one driving shaft of the transmission case to the traveling part and the tilling operation part.
