To provide a power transmitting mechanism including coil springs to serve power transmitting from an engine to a compressor, wherein it is compatibly possible to equip the coil spring with good mechanical endurance against repetitive stress and conduct the power shutoff operation in proper timing.
A pulley 43 is installed rotatably at one end of the housing 12 of a compressor, while a bearing member 50 extending in the radial direction of the pulley is fixed to one end of the drive shaft 16 of compressor. A pair of coil springs 601 and 602 mutually overlapping are arranged in an accommodation recess 45 provided in the pulley 43, and the base ends of the springs are secured to the bottom wall 43c of the pulley. The tips 63 of the coil springs elongated from the natural length condition are hitched at a restriction member 471 installed at the open side of the pulley and thereby held in positions capable of pressing part of the bearing member 50. When engagement of the springs with the restricting member is released by the load on the compressor side, the working coupling of the pulley 43 with the drive shaft 16 is disengaged.
