To provide a pre-tensioning method for a power transmission chain which simplifies a pre-tensioning apparatus and, at the same time, can determine the perimeter of the chain in an simple and accurate manner, and a pre-tensioning apparatus for a power transmission chain.
The pre-tensioning apparatus 31 comprises a disk-shaped chain holding member 32 having a chain holding face with the inner periphery forming a cylindrical face when an endless chain 1 is wrapped round, a roller holding member 33 disposed concentrically with the chain holding member 32, a motor 34 that rotates the chain holding member 32, and a pressure applying roller 35 that has an axis eccentric to the axis of the roller holding member 33 and is rotatably supported by the roller holding member 33. A pre-tensioning force is applied by rotating the chain holding member 32 in such a state that the peripheral part of the pressure applying roller 35 is pressed against a predetermined part of the inner periphery of the chain 1.
