PURPOSE: To generate a vortex in the longitudinal direction without requiring any recycle region in a passing inlet gap by introducing air into tangential gaps through a vortex generator.
CONSTITUTION: The air is guided into tangential gaps 20 via vortex generators 9, a plurality of which are arranged across the width or the circumference of the gap 20 preferably with no intermediate space. The vortex generator 9 has height at least equal to 50% of that of the passing gap and fuel is introduced into the gap in a range immediately close to the vortex generator 9. It is therefore possible, in a new static mixer formed by a three-dimensional vortex generator, to achieve extraordinary short mixing distance at the burner inlet with a small pressure loss at the same time. It is especially suitable for mixing fuel having a relatively low front pressure with significantly lean combustion air.
