PURPOSE: To obtain easily the subject compound as a fungicide, an insecticide, etc., by reacting an oxophosphonic acid ester with an alkoxycarbonylalkyl phosponic acid ester and reacting the product successively with a formylating agent, methylating agent and a ketone.
CONSTITUTION: An oxophosphonic acid ester of formula I [R1 is H, a (substd.) alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, phenyl, etc.; R2 is H, a (substd.) alkyl, alkenyl phenyl, etc.; R7 is H, (substd.) alkyl, alkenyl, phenyl, etc.], is first reacted with an alkoxycarbonylalkyl phosphonic acid ester of formula II (M+ is an alkali metal cation) in the presence of a diluent and a base. The acrylic ester thus formed by formylated with methyl formate in the presence of a diluent and a base and methylated with a methylating agent to form an alkoxymethylenecarboxylic acid ester. The ester thus formed is reacted with a ketone or an aldehyde to obtain a 1-alkoxyhexatriene-2-carboxylic acid ester of formula III.
