Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain the title substance, by reacting a benzyl halide with an N-aryl substituted anthranilaldehyde in the presence of an alkali metal hydride in an aprotic polar solvent, and by reacting the resulting benzylanthranilaldehyde with a formaldehyde dialkyl mercaptal S-oxide.

CONSTITUTION: A benzyl halide of formula I: (X is H, Cl, alkyl group, etc.; Y is Br, etc.; R is alkyl group) is reacted with an N-(2,6-dichlorophenyl)anthranilaldehyde to form a compound of formula II, which is than reacted with a formaldehyde dialkyl mercaptal S-oxide of formula III to afford the objective substance of formula IV, e.g. 1-methylsulfinyl-1-methylthio-2-(N-benzyl-0-(2,6-dichloroamilino)phenyl]-ethylene.

USE: An intermediate for antiphlogistics and analogensics.
