PURPOSE: To easily obtain the subject compd. by using triphosphate esterified by at least one piece of aryl group as a dehydrating agent at the time of obtaining the subject compound by dehydration of 1-aryl-alkanol-1.
CONSTITUTION: At the time of obtaining the compd. of formula II by dehydrating a compd. of formula I (R1 to R3 are H, an alkyl, etc.), an arylphosphate of formula III (R4 to R6 are each an aryl, an alkyl, an alalkyl, etc., provided that at least one thereof is an aryl) in an amount of 0.2 to 1 wt.% is brought into reaction at 140 to 200°C with 100 wt.% reaction mixture as the dehydrating agent. The formed water is distilled and removed by a tractive agent (e.g.; toluene) and the reaction mixture is directly subjected to fractional distillation after the end of the dehydration, by which the objective compsn. is obtd. This compound is useful as an intermediate for an initiator of anion polymn.
