NEW MATERIAL:A compound shown by the formulaI(R1 is amino which may be acylated or protected; X is H or methoxy).

EXAMPLE: Sodium 3-benzyloxycaboxamide-2-oxoazetidine-1-sulfonate.

USE: Having antimicrobial action or β-lactamase inhibiting action, useful for remedying or preventing infectious diseass of man and animals by use of it alone or it together with a β-lactam type antibiotic.

PROCESS: A compound shown by the formula II (R2 is amino which may be acylated or protected) is reacted with a t-butyl or isopropylsilyl compound to give a t-butyl or isopropylsilyl derivative, which is sulfonated with sulfuric anhydride or its reactive derivative, and, if necessary, the protecting group is removed, to give a compound shown by the formulaI.
