Abstract:

PURPOSE: To simply obtain a 6-oxopenicillanate which is an intermediate for preparing penicillin derivatives by the ozone treatment of a diazo compound.

CONSTITUTION: A diazo compound of formula I (R is a carboxyl protective group) is dissolved in a solvent such as a hydrocarbon (e.g. n-pentane, etc.), an ester (e.g. ethyl acetate, etc.), and ozone in an oxygen form rich in ozone is passed through the solution at -80 to 0°C (preferably from -30 to -10°C) to obtain the desired 6-oxopenicillanate of formula II.
