PURPOSE: To obtain an adsorbent excellent in adsorbing capacity by a method wherein a mixed liquid consisting of a polymer, a solvent and a precipitant is dispersed in an aqueous medium and, after the polymer is granulated, the precipitant jis removed therefrom.
CONSTITUTION: A mixed solution consisting of a polymer such as polystyrene or the like, a solvent for said polymer such as methylene chlorde or the like and precipitant soluble in the solvent and insoluble in water is dispersed in an aqueous medium at first and, after dispersing, the solvent is distilled off to granulate the polymer containing the precipitant. After granulation, the precipitant is volatilized by heating or removed by solvent extraction. By this method, the porous adsorbent excellent in adsorbing capacity is prepared industrially.
