Abstract:
To provide a method of preparing aqueous-based VA-CKA copolymers for significantly reducing formation of unwanted hydrolytic byproducts.SOLUTION: The method comprises the steps of contacting, under emulsion polymerization conditions, vinyl acetate, a cyclic ketene acetal monomer, and a monoethylenically unsaturated acid monomer or a salt thereof, so as to form an aqueous dispersion of copolymer particles comprising structural units of the vinyl acetate, cyclic ketene acetal and monoethylenically unsaturated acid monomer or salt thereof.SELECTED DRAWING: None
