PURPOSE: To provide a method for enabling selective reduction of aromatic nitro compound in the presence of a palladium catalyst in the simple and industrial reaction, especialy, a method to convert produced halogenated aniline directly into a diazonium salt without work up, using an industrially retrievable simple and stable catalyst system.
CONSTITUTION: In the method to produced halogenated aromatic amines by reducing nitro compound which copes with it in the presence of the heterogeneous catalyst including the metal of the VIIIa group, the reaction is carried out at (a) the temperature range of about -20°C - about 70°C, (b) with hydrazine of about 1.0 - about 1.7 equivalents based on a reducing nitro group, (c) in the presence of heterogeneous palladium catalyst. As for this method, halogenated aromatic amines is produced at good yield without dehalogenating thereof. If it is necessary, it is possible to convert it directly into the diazonium salt.
