PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound by an industrial plant economically advantageously, by reacting an aromatic intro compound, an aliphatic lower alcohol or a phenol with carbon monoxide in liquid phase in the presence of a catalyst of selenium or sulfur under a specific condition.
CONSTITUTION: An aromatic nitro compound (e.g., nitrobenzene, nitrotoluene, nitroxylene, etc.) an aliphatic lower alcohol (e.g., methanol, ethanol, etc.), or a phenol is reacted with carbon monoxide in a liquid in the presence of a catalyst containing selenium (e.g., metal selenium, selenium dioxide, etc.) and/or sulfur (e.g., sulfur, hydrogen sulfide, etc.) to give the desired compound. Carbon monoxide gas obtained by heating a mixed gas consisting essentially of carbon dioxide and oxygen at ≥900°C, passing it through a coke layer is used as the carbon monoxide, and the exhaust gas after the reaction of urethane preparation is recycled for use.
