To provide a process for prepn. of a catalyst consisting of an inert supporting body for forming hydrocarbon having a high mol.wt. (C25+) by converting a synthetic gas, cobalt, ruthenium and a third element selected from scandium and yttrium.
(1) A catalyst precursor (A) contg. the cobalt and the inert supporting base is prepd. and, in succession, calcination, reduction and passivation are executed. (2) The catalyst precursor (B) contg. the cobalt, ruthenium and inert supporting body is prepd. by precipitation of the ruthenium of the catalyst precursor (A) and, in succession, the calcination, reduction and passivation are executed. (3) The final catalyst is prepd. by precipitation of the third element selected from the scandium and yttrium on the catalyst precursor (B) and, in succession, the calcination, reduction and passivation are executed.
