PURPOSE: To efficiently prepare a support for an olefin dimerization catalyst from an alkali metal carbonate by preparing a thick paste from potassium carbonate and water, extruding the thick paste to form extrusion, drying and calcining it.
CONSTITUTION: Potassium carbonate and water are mixed in a weight ratio of about 0.23-0.29 g of potassium carbonate and 1 g of water. Then the mixture is kneaded at about 0-25°C for about 60 minutes to form a thick paste. The thick paste is aged for about 24 hours and is extruded with an extruder having about 0-60°C barrel temperature. Subsequently the extrusion is dried by a vacuum drying process at about 145-170°C, and further is calcined at about 200-400°C. An alkali metal, such as lithium or sodium, is deposited on a support thus obtained. Thereby a catalyst suitable for olefin dimerization is obtained.
