Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a method capable of preparing cinnamic acid derivatives without requiring special attention to work-place hygiene and ecology.

CONSTITUTION: When the cinnamic acid derivatives are prepared by using a bromoaromatic derivative and an acrylic acid derivative in the presence of a palladium catalyst and a phosphate, the reaction is carried out in the presence of an inorganic base, a large excess of phosphane (based on the palladium) and alcohols and/or a phase transfer catalyst.
