To obtain a silver halide photographic sensitive material excellent in scuffing and wear resistances, traveling stability, etc., by preparing a coating fluid for a lubricative layer through a step for mixing a specified polyvinyl alcohol solution with a specified lubricant dispersion.
A polyvinyl alcohol having ≥96 mol% saponification degree is dissolved in water under heating to ≥40°C to form a polyvinyl alcohol solution. A lubricant is dispersed in water to form a lubricant dispersion. The polyvinyl alcohol solution is mixed with the lubricant dispersion to prepare the objective coating fluid for a lubricative layer. Since the polyvinyl alcohol is hardly dissolved in an organic solvent, in order to form a uniform solution, ≥35 wt.% water is preferably contained in the solvent. The lubricant may be a known lubricant but preferably has ≥50°C melting point. A silicone compound, a higher aliphatic carboxylic acid or its derivative may be used as the lubricant.
