PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound useful as a synthetic intermediate of pharmaceuticals and pesticides, etc., and as a light-emitting substance, easily, by oxidizing a substituted ethylene, etc. with a sensitizer for heterogeneous photo- sensitized oxidation in the presence of visible light and oxygen.
CONSTITUTION: The compound having the basic skeleton of formula I (e.g. 1,2- diethoxyethylene) is oxidized in the presence of oxygen and visible light, using a sensitizer for the heterogeneous photo-sensitized oxidation obtained by supporting a sensitizing substance (e.g. aromatic ketone) having a discoloration degree of class 4W8 and a dissolved oxygen consumption (ΔDO) of ≥0.5 (represented by the formula II wherein DO0 and DO1 are dissolved oxygen concentrations before and after the reaction, respectively) on a carrier in an actively dispersed state, to obtain the 1,2-dioxetane having the skeleton of formula III (e.g. 1,2-dioxa-3,4-diethoxycyclobutane of formula IV) or its secondary reaction product. The products can be separated and purified easily, and the sensitizer can be used repeatedly for a long period.
