PURPOSE: To obtain a copolymer having wide molecular weight distribution, improved moldability and strength, by copolymerizing ethylene with an α-olefin in the presence of a catalyst prepared by blending a reaction product of a Mg alkoxide, a halogenated hydrocarbon, and a Ti compound with an organoaluminum compound.
CONSTITUTION: Ethylene is copolymerized with an α-olefin (e.g., 1-butene, etc.) using a catalyst consisting of (A) a catalytic component obtained by reacting (i) a magnesium alkoxide (e.g., magnesium diethoxide, etc.) with (ii) a halogenated hydrocarbon (e.g., hexa-chloroethane, etc.) and (iii) a titanium compound (e.g., titanium tetrachloride, etc.) and (B) an organoaluminum compound (e.g., diethylaluminum chloride, etc.) to give the desired copolymer.
