PURPOSE: A thin film prime fluorescent layer is formed by the sputtering or the like method, then the same fluorescent layer is formed thereon by the chemical vapor-phase growing method to give a fluorescent surface which can be used in CRT with higher luminance and equal or superior high resolution to usual TV- unit.
CONSTITUTION: A fluorescent prime layer of single crystal thin film 2 is formed on the major surface of the base 1 by sputtering or metallization process. Then, another fluorescent layer 3 of the same substance as in the prime layer 2 is allowed to grow by the chemical vapor-phase growing method or the liquid-phase epitaxial method to give a fluorescent surface 4 consisting of several ten angstrom thick layer 2 and several ten millimeter thick single crystal thin film layer 3.
