PURPOSE: To prepare deashed granulated coal having a large particle diameter, with a smaller amount of an oil-based binder and reduced power consumption, by separating a slurry after 1st-step granulation into oil-containing granular coal and ash-containing slurry and performing 2nd-step stanulation of the oil-containing granular coal in a liquid.
CONSTITUTION: A dust coal slurry is prepared by adding water 3 to dust coal 2 and an oil-based binder 6 is added to it, followed by mixing in a line mixer 5. The resultant mixed slurry is granulated in a liquid in a 1st granulating machine 7. The granulated slurry is classified with a screen 4 while it is washed with sprayed water, and is dehydrated for separation into 1st-stage granulated coal, ash and slurry. The resultant oil-containing granulated coal is led into a concentration adjustment tank 12 and water is added to it to a predetermined concentration. The 1st-stage granulated coal slurry is sent into a 2nd granulating machine 15. Without addition of any binder, the slurry is grannulated at a revolution rate which is about one-fifth of that in the 1st granulating machine for formation of pellets having predetermined particle diameters and deashing. The treated slurry is classified with a screen 17, washed, dehydrated and separated into 2nd-stage granulated coal, ash and slurry to produce an oil-containing granulated coal with a low ash content.
