PURPOSE: To obtain the subject compound substantially not including sulfuric acid through processes comprising the initial reaction of sulfo-oxidation of the concerned mixture of n-paraffins, the removal of the unreacted paraffins and the excess of SO2 from the reaction mixture, the addition of hydrogen peroxide, and the treatment by a specific process.
CONSTITUTION: Unreacted n-paraffins are removed from the reaction mixture obtd. by the sulfo-oxidation of the concerned n-paraffin mixture, then the excess of SO2 is removed, 0.5-5% of hydrogen peroxide is added, a heavy phase including sulfuric acid, is formed through one treatment selected from (i) addition of an alcohol with a number of carbon atoms within the range of from 4 to 8 (preferably hexanol), (ii) heating up to a temperature within the range from 50-150°C and vacuum distillation under a reduced pressure within the range of from 5-500 mmHg until at least 60% of contained water is distilled off, and (iii) addition of either aliphatic or cycloaliphatic paraffin with a number of carbon atoms within the range of from 6 to 8, and distillation of the resulting azeotropic mixture at a temperature within the range of 20-110°C, and a light phase separated from the heavy phase is extraction-treated by the supercritical CO2 to obtain the desired compound.
