Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a compact, uniform, spherical polyolefin excellent in flowability by polymerizing an α-olefin under certain conditions in the presence of a catalyst comprising a specific transition metal component and an organometallic compd.
CONSTITUTION: An α-olefin is polymerized under certain conditions in the presence of a catalyst comprising an organometallic compd. (e.g. triethylaluminum) and a transition metal component which is obtd. by reacting 1 mol of an organomagnesium compd. of the formula: R1xMgR22-x (R1 and R2 are each 2-12C alkyl; and x is 0-2) with 0.5-2.5 mol of a chlorinated aliph. hydrocarbon (e.g. CCl4), treating the resultant solid with an alcohol (e.g. ethanol) in an amt. of 0.001-1 mol (based on 1 g-atom of Mg in the solid) at -20°C to 150°C to give a support, and reacting the support with at least one compd. of the formula: M1Xm(OR5)4-m (M1 is Ti or Zr; R5 is 2-10C alkyl; X is halogen; and m is 0-4) in an amt. of 0.1-5 mol (based on 1 g-atom of Mg in the support) at 20-180°C.
