PURPOSE: To prepare a polyurethane having excellent processability and mechanical properties, without the problem of toxicity, by using bis(methylhydroxyethoxy)- benzene, etc. as a curing agent of a prepolymer.

CONSTITUTION: An isocyanate-terminated urethane prepolymer obtained by reacting a polyisocyanate with a polyol under the condition to give excessive isocyanate groups, is reacted with a curing agent comprising (A) bis(methylhydroxyethoxy)benzene or a mixture of (A) and (B) a chain polyol having two or more hydroxyl groups in a moleculd and having a molecular weight of≤200, to obtain the objective polyurethane. The equivalent ratio of the total hydroxyl group in the curing agent to the isocyanate group in the prepolymer is pref. 0.9W1.1
