PURPOSE: To stably obtain a gimbal spring with high springiness having a corrosion resistant beautiful golden color coating in a good yield in a simple process, by applying heat treatment to a stainless base material in an oxidative atmosphere at a specified temp. for a specified time.

CONSTITUTION: A stainless base material such as SUS304 is punched into a spring shape and the punched object is subjected to annealing treatment in an electric furnace. In the next stage, thus obtained stainless thin plate is annealed by applying heat treatment to the same at a relatively low temp. of 360W400°C for 30minW1hr in an oxidative atmosphere to obtain an objective stainless spring having a golden color coating formed thereon. If a magnetic head is assembled by this stainless spring and spring constant is measured, springiness is increased by about 5%. Therefore, a magnetic disc apparatus is strong against foreign vibration and the positioning preciseness of the magnetic head is increased.
