Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain tertiary phosphines from inexpensive starting substances by reacting phosphines with halogenated compounds in the presence of excess powdery potassium hydroxide and dimethylsulfoxide or the like.
CONSTITUTION: Phosphines of formula HnPR"3-n (R" is H, n-butyl, aryl or pyridyl; (n) is 1 or 2) or formula H2P-[CH2]3-PH2 is reacted with halogenated compounds of formula X-R (R is an aryl, pyridyl, aryl sulfonic acid; X is F, Cl or Br) in the presence of a powdery potassium hydroxide of at least one mole per mole of halogenated compounds and dimethylsulfoxide and/or dimethoxyethane at a temp. of 0-100°C to obtain the objective compounds of formula R'PR2 (R' is an aryl, pyridyl, aryl sulfonic acid or n-butyl) or formula R2P-[CH2]3-PR2.
