Abstract:
PURPOSE: To prepare a thin plate of carbon suitable as a separator for fuel cell, by adding graphite powder and cellulosic fibers to a thermosetting resin diluted with an organic solvent, molding it into a thin plate, curing and calcining it.
CONSTITUTION: 100pts.vol. thermosetting resin such as phenolic resin, furan resin, etc. is blended with 20W200pts.vol. organic solvent such as acetone, ethanol, etc. and adjusted to a proper viscosity. The blend is then mixed with graphite powder and cellulosic fibers in such a way that the content of graphite is 5W 45vol% and the content of cellulosic fibers is ≤50vol%. When the prepared mixture is used as a separator for fuel cell, it is molded into 0.5W3mm thickness, cured, and calcined.
