PURPOSE: To save labor and improve the efficiency and heat economy, by pulverzing raw materials into pulverized charcoal with a preliminary crusher, a dryer, a carbonizing apparatus and a pulverizer connected to one another with a transfer means.

CONSTITUTION: Raw materials, e.g. shoots or twiggy trees, are introduced into a preliminary crusher 1 and crushed and then fed to a dryer 2. The moisture content thereof is then reduced to 4W5% in the dryer 2 and fed to a carbonizing apparatus 4 and carbonized to take out a char from the bottom and a decomposition product other than the char from the top. The resultant char is then fed to a pulverizer 7, and the decomposition product is cooled in a cooler 5 to separate a combustible gas, which is used as a heat source for the dryer 2. The char fed into the pulverizer 7 is pulverized in a suitable high temperature state and fed from a cyclone to a silo 15 by a conveyoer 8, stored therein temporarily and shipped.
