To provide a prepolymerized catalyst which has a high catalytic activity and can give a polymer with a high bulk specific gravity even in the production of a low-mol.-wt. polymer; an olefin polymerization catalyst containing the same; and an olefin polymerization method.
A first prepolymerized catalyst is prepared by prepolymerizing an olefin in the presence of an olefin polymerization catalyst which contains a solid titanium catalyst component (Al) containing Ti, Mg, a halogen, and a compound having at least two ether bonds linked via a plurality of atoms and an organometallic compound catalyst component (B) containing a metal selected from among metals of the groups I, II, and III of the periodic table in an amount of component B of 0.1-2.0 mol per mol of Ti atom. A polymer formed by the prepolymerization has an intrinsic viscosity [η] (measured at 135°C in decalin) of at least 1.5 dl/g. A first olefin polymerization catalyst contains the first prepolymerized catalyst. An olefin polymerization method is provided wherein an olefin is (co)polymerized in the presence of the olefin polymerization catalyst.
