To provide a pressure contact mechanism for a recording head which can pressure contact the recording head by a correct pressure contact force in each stage when stepwise different pressure contact forces are set to the recording head, and can reduce a moving distance of a pressing member required for the recording head to reach a predetermined pressure contact force, thereby making an apparatus compact.

In accordance with the movement of the pressing member 19 in a pressure contact direction, each of urging force-transmitting parts 20 is stepwisely butted against a corresponding part 17 of a core member 16 to which the urging force is to be transmitted, whereby the urging force of each urging member 18 can be stepwisely applied to the recording head 13.
