PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for inspecting a printed matter which can inspect and collates a printed matter with variable information printed therein, without referring to original data of the printed matter.SOLUTION: The apparatus for inspecting the printed matter extracts (a code pattern extracting part 31) code patterns from printed data stored in a recording media 17 in an invisible form, decodes (a code data restoring part 32) the extracted code patterns to obtain code data, compares (a comparing-determining part 34) the obtained code data with code data obtained by taking in a code pattern from a printed matter 15, and determines whether right or not. The determination result is recorded in a storage part 36 via an output control part 35, and is utilized for history management and remanufacture or the like.
