The printer has a carriage 14 that can be moved in a first direction with respect to a medium, a recording head discharging color ink or clear ink hardened by irradiation with light, rows 151 to 154 of color ink nozzles provided in the recording head and a first row 155 of clear ink nozzles discharging clear ink kept at a first temperature, and a second row 156 of clear ink nozzles discharging clear ink kept at a second temperature, forms a color image on the medium by discharging the color ink from the rows of color ink nozzles, hardening the color image by irradiating light from a light irradiation section 160, forms a clear ink layer on the medium by discharging the clear ink from either the first row of clear ink nozzles or a second row of clear ink nozzles and hardens the clear ink by irradiating the clear ink layer with light.
