To provide a ribbon mask whose opening is not caught in the edge of a sheet when a recording head moves in the scanning direction and a printer using the ribbon mask.

In the ribbon mask which has the opening 72 extending in the direction of a wire train 75 consisting of multiple recording wires 20a and wherein the recording wires 20a project from the opening 72, the opening 72 is formed so that the end of a hole wall 72c of the opening 72 in alignment with the wire train 75 may incline in the direction which leaves the wire train 75 as approaching the termination of the hole wall 72c.
