To provide a printer which can automatically restore a storage part to a closed state when the storage part is set to an open state with the capability of completing printing processing in a short time even during automatic restoration.

The printer comprises: a first printing means 3 which prints one surface of paper, a storage part 4 which can be partly set to the open state or partly set to the closed state and can temporarily store printed paper P, storage part manipulation means M3, 42 and 43 which can automatically restore the storage part 4 from the open state to the closed state, a second printing means 5 which prints the paper P, and a paper re-supply means 8 which conveys the paper P whose one surface is printed from the storage part 4 to the second printing means 5. In addition, when printing is started, it is detected to which state of "opened" or "closed" the storage part 4 is set, and when the storage part 4 is set to the closed state, the printer performs initializing processing, and when the storage part 4 is set to the open state, the printer performs the initializing process and the automatic restoration processing side by side.
