PURPOSE: To reduce the shift of the printing positions both in the forward and backward directions, by performing the forward print based on the signals of the left sensor and then the backward print by obtaining the number of pulses from a detection of the right sensor to the print starting position respectively.
CONSTITUTION: In case the right and left sensors are provided to perform the forward and backward print based on the signals of these sensors, the left sensor 6a is set as the standard sensor. In this printer, the constant that is decided in a single meaning is given to the number (a) of stepping motor pulses from the time point when the sensor 6a is inverted from ON to OFF to the print starting point of the first character as well as to the number A from the first character to the final character. Accordingly the print starts at the pulse number (a) and based on the signal of the sensor 6a in the case of the forward print. In the case of the backward print, the number of the stepping motor driving pulses that is equivalent to the distance between the right and left sensors is counted, and then the number of pulses is obtained from a detection of the right sensor 6b to the print starting position. In such way, the shift of the printing positions can be reduced between the forward and backward directions.
